Kia ora koutou, and greetings from the National Dialogue for Christian Unity during this Holy Week.
The National Dialogue hopes to raise the profile and engagement with the annual ecumenical Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, traditionally held in Aotearoa between Ascension and Pentecost. One aspect was to engage a small Wellington-based ecumenical workgroup to review the international text and suggest a modified version (which we hope to continue annually). There is still much room to modify and interpret the theme and liturgy to suit local contexts.
The international materials for 2024 were prepared by an ecumenical team from Burkina Faso facilitated by the local Chemin Neuf Community. It takes as its text “You shall love the Lord your God ... and your neighbour as yourself” (Luke 10:27). In the southern hemisphere we celebrate the Week of Prayer between Ascension and Pentecost; or some other date that is appropriate for the local context.
