One of the beautiful things about the church is that in our midst there are true saints and wonders of the faith and of the life of the church, and often they are seated right next to us on a Sunday morning.
As a member of the Cathedral’s 8am congregation, the Reverend Bill Bennett is just such a person. On Sunday, 10 Decemeber the community was delighted to hear him preach - not because it was something new for him, but because it was something that has been such a signicicant part of his life.
Why did Bill dust off his preaching gifts, you might ask? The answer is that it was the way Bill chose to acknowledge and celebrate his 60th anniversary of ordination to the diaconate – which actually falls on the 15th December. Yes, that's right, 60 years.
Bill and his wife Wendy are Waiapu legends, and we are deeply grateful to them for their ministry amongst us.
