Resourcing Parishes
After careful consideration and research, we believe the concept of a ‘Resourcing Parish’ could be one helpful way to implement our strategy and strengthen ministry and mission at a local level.
We plan to pilot this concept later this quarter in one location, which will be announced later. If the pilot's evaluation is successful, we will look to establish other “Resourcing Parishes.” A paper written by Rev Alan Burnett for the standing committee is linked, explaining this concept in a little more detail. We encourage you to read the document, although it is summarised below for brevity’s sake.
The bishop designates a Resourcing Parish with the expectation the parish will walk alongside other local parishes collaboratively, helping to facilitate ministry and mission. The Resourcing Parish will have the capacity to offer support beyond the bounds of its parish. This could be in administration, governance, ministry, mission, training, or leadership.
The Resourcing Parish is envisaged to work relationally with local parishes, with support formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding. Resourcing Parishes will be expected not to centralise control, respect the local identity of each parish community, and honour the broadness of theology and practice within Waiapu.
It is hoped that some of the outcomes of a Resourcing Parish will be as follows:
Greater collaboration and connectivity between local parishes.
Increased capacity in ministry, leadership, mission, and community development.
Local parishes are growing, healthy and outward working.
Increase in ordinations and those on the discernment pathway.
