'Living on the fault line – Aotearoa New Zealand’s bicultural future' (Quentin Wilson Publishing 2025) to be published in February is the latest book from John Bluck, retired bishop of Waiapu, following his previous successful publication 'Becoming Pākehā – a journey between two cultures' (HarperCollins 2022).
Living on the fault line tries to address the turmoil created by our new coalition government’s policies on things Maori and a wider than ever ethnic divide. It explores what a Kiwi identity might look like that keeps faith with Te Tiriti and why there Is such a division between those who dream of a tiriti-based future, with shared language and entangled cultures and those who fear that future, branding it as unfair, unequal, imposed.
Of special interest to church readers will be the section entitled “Religion’s long fingers”, which traces the way Anglicans and the ill fated ecumenical movement have helped and hindered the shaping of Pākehā identity.
The book will be available from February 2025 at a special pre-publication offer of $25 plus postage ($10.50 or rural delivery $15 for single copies). Please place orders at johnbluck22@gmail.com with payment on delivery.
